The complete solution from Swissphone contains all the important components for protecting lone workers. Whenever people need to be protected, prevention is of particular importance. Alarm triggering, alarm management, transmission, intervention and follow-up are coordinated and closely linked.
For lone worker protection, either the smartphone app with the lone worker module or various dedicated devices (for example Swissphone TRIO) are used. In addition to the volitional alarm, an emergency situation can also be detected automatically by the device (dead man function, fall). In this way, an alarm is triggered immediately.
In order to avoid false alarms, the sensor settings can be customised to meet specific needs. In addition, an automatically triggered alarm can be manually cancelled at any time within the pre-alarm.
The Watchdog vin s.GUARD monitors the functioning of the lone worker service and alerts the responsible persons if communication is disrupted or fails.
An individual emergency plan can be stored for each lone worker, which takes into account the localities and schedules (office hours, weekends). Who should be contacted in an emergency and through which “channel” is defined in your safety procedures. In addition to first responders and the company ambulance service, an external organisation can also coordinate and manage the operation.
The alarms can be acknowledged by the recipient. If no or too few first responders are available within a predefined period of time, the system automatically escalates and extends the alert to further recipients.

Employers are legally obliged to provide for the safety of lone workers according to the hazardous situation. If the risk assessment permits lone working with continuous and volitional monitoring, a personal emergency call system (PNA) can be used to raise an alarm in an emergency.
The legal basis varies from country to country. In Germany, for example, the DGUV regulation 112-139 is authoritative, in Switzerland the SUVA guidelines concerning persons working alone. SUVA makes recommendations within the framework of prevention – however, it does not carry out any product tests. However, we are in constant contact with those responsible within SUVA – new requirements are quickly implemented in s.GUARD. Our solution is SUVA and DGUV 139 (formerly BGR 139) compliant.
The lone worker solution can be used in all companies where people work alone or out of sight of other employees. Examples are work in industry and production, but also in field service and evening, night or weekend work.
This is determined by the deployment plan: A permanently manned control centre processes the emergency calls and coordinates immediate assistance or the in-house emergency service responds to the emergency calls (e.g. ambulance service). Alternatively, employees who are in the vicinity receive notification of the emergency via app, voice or text message or paging.
The app runs on almost all smartphones with the operating systems Apple iOS (from version 8.0) and Android (from version 4.4). The basic requirement is functioning GPS, accelerometer and/or gyroscope sensors. The functionality is checked before each use.
The s.GUARD lone worker solution is characterised by a very high degree of flexibility. You can define who can activate or deactivate the monitoring: only the supervisor, the lone worker, or both. We will be happy to advise you on the optimal settings for your needs.
The app uses the location services of Android and iOS for positioning. These use GPS to determine the position. If there is no direct visual contact with the satellite, this can result in limited accuracy. Positioning inside buildings can be done by scanning a QR code or WiFi.
The s.GUARD application is redundantly designed and uses all available channels to transmit alarms.
False alarms can occur. For this reason, the lone worker or his/her supervisor has the option with s.GUARD to define an individual pre-alarm time. During this period, only the lone worker himself is notified of a potentially detected danger (no movement/fall). If this local alarm is not confirmed, an alarm is issued according to the disposition.
A rescue operation is always authorised in accordance with the defined emergency plan of your company. If external agencies are involved (e.g. an alarm centre or the ambulance), the costs for the intervention are always charged directly to your company in accordance with the valid tariff regulations of these organisations.
