Emergency alert networks
STARTSEITE The Solutions from Swissphone Components for Alerting Radio Infrastructure
We provide you with a complete alerting network that is extraordinarily flexible, extremely fast and also disaster-proof. The networks can be operated “onsite”, i.e. on a company premises, but also on a regional or national level, e.g. for hydride and express alerting in the first responder and public safety sector.
The infrastructure of Swissphone’s alarm networks is tried and tested and extremely robust. It can be adapted via software to a very large extent to the end-user’s individual requirements. The range of the network or alerting is also scalable: cities as well as counties, regions and states can be covered.
Compared to other infrastructures, the Swissphone radio network is cheaper to operate. Depending on your needs, the network can also be expanded further and equipped for exceptional situations such as a power blackout or IT outage. You can also send alarms via different routes, for example from a decentralised control centre into the network.
This white paper deals with the issue of alerting response forces within public safety organisations, with a focus on fire brigades and rescue services. After a discussion of the requirements, there will be a technology comparison of POCSAG, TETRA and mobile communications, whereby GSM (2G) or its current successor LTE (4G) will be used as terms, depending on the context of the specific standard.
An onsite network, e.g. for a company or a hospital, usually consists of a primary base station and several secondary base stations. The primary station transmits messages and at the same time controls the secondary stations. This station is connected via an air interface, e.g. via a local area network (LAN), a wide area network (WAN), LTE or directional radio.
Typical use cases of onsite networks are company premises, especially extensive areas. For example, chemical companies and power plant operators alert their plant fire brigades and other emergency services via Swissphone’s self-sufficient radio infrastructure.
Hospitals and care facilities are another frequent application. Here, too, alarms must reach the staff quickly, specifically and reliably. For these and other applications, our radio infrastructure offers clear advantages.
The onsite networks can be adapted to your requirements and wishes in the best possible way. This applies to the hardware components and the infrastructure, including the network topology, as well as to the level of security and – very importantly – to the features and functions of the radio network.
In combination with the s.GUARD platform, you as a user of an onsite network from Swissphone can use pre-configured solutions for all common alerting situations: armed intruder , threat, fire, cyber attack, evacuation, technical incident and many more.

Regional and national alerting networks are connected to a primary base station via LAN, WAN, LTE or directional radio. They can be implemented as single and multi-primary networks. The primary base stations transmit messages and simultaneously control the secondary base stations. They are integrated into the alarm system via air interfaces (LAN, WAN, LTE, directional radio, etc.). The range can be scaled via the station network, typically cities, counties or federal states.
Among the users of Swissphone’s wide area network architecture are the operators of emergency control centres. If you have to guarantee legally defined deadlines for assistance in damage scenarios and coordinate the dispatching of operations in cooperation with the local blue-light services, our solution is the right one for you.
Just like the onsite networks, Swissphone’s regional and national networks can be adapted exactly to your requirements or to the structural and topological conditions. As a user, you have an independent and robust radio infrastructure that was developed from the ground up for the reliable transmission of critical and safety-related information.

Fast, secure, reliable, transparent: these are the essential characteristics of Swissphone networks. But what does that mean in concrete terms and how are these properties achieved?
Thanks to the network status feedback, you can receive both an outside confirmation and clear information about the functional status of each individual base station at any time. This saves time in the event of a status alarm and ensures transparency.
The alarm can be sent even faster with the optional Express Alarm®. By linking several call addresses with the alarm text, the amount of data to be sent is reduced and thus also the time for sending out the alarm.
For internal communication from base station to base station, the Swissphone networks use a 4800Bd transport layer. This speeds up the propagation of the alarm message throughout the area.
In the single- or multi-primary networks, the alarm is propagated in waves around the central primary base station. Secondary base stations positioned in the vicinity repeat received alarm messages until the entire area is covered and the base stations furthest out have also received the call. The secondary base stations are arranged in the form of one or more rings around the primary master base stations.
